Head Versus Heart Tarot Spread

A six-card tarot spread for understanding what logic knows, what emotion needs, where each may be distorted, and how to make an integrated choice.

When your head and heart disagree, either one can sound like the only trustworthy voice. Logic may protect you from risk while ignoring what makes life meaningful. Emotion may reveal a genuine need while overlooking practical consequences. This six-card spread helps both forms of intelligence speak, then looks for a choice capable of respecting them together.

Integration is not always compromise. Sometimes one voice supplies the destination while the other designs a safer way to reach it.

The Spread at a Glance

  1. What My Head Knows — This card identifies facts, patterns, consequences, and practical information that deserve attention.
  2. What My Head Fears — Logic can be shaped by anxiety, perfectionism, scarcity, or the desire to eliminate all uncertainty.
  3. The Practical Plan — This position shows how structure, research, timing, boundaries, or preparation could make the decision more workable.
  4. What My Heart Needs — Emotion points toward belonging, freedom, expression, love, purpose, dignity, or another need that facts alone cannot measure.
  5. What My Heart Fears — This card may reveal abandonment, regret, disappointment, vulnerability, boredom, or the fear of betraying yourself.
  6. The Integrated Choice — Bring both systems together.

Before You Shuffle

Describe the decision without labeling logic as cold or emotion as irrational. Ask: “What are my head and heart each trying to tell me, and how can I choose with both?” Notice where fear may be speaking through either voice.

How to Lay Out the Cards

Create two rows of three cards. The top row belongs to the head: what it knows, what it fears, and the plan it recommends. The lower row belongs to the heart: what it needs, what it fears, and the truth that can integrate the decision.

6-card Head Versus Heart tarot spread numbered layout

Card 1: What My Head Knows

This card identifies facts, patterns, consequences, and practical information that deserve attention.

Card 2: What My Head Fears

Logic can be shaped by anxiety, perfectionism, scarcity, or the desire to eliminate all uncertainty. Name the distortion without dismissing legitimate caution.

Card 3: The Practical Plan

This position shows how structure, research, timing, boundaries, or preparation could make the decision more workable.

Card 4: What My Heart Needs

Emotion points toward belonging, freedom, expression, love, purpose, dignity, or another need that facts alone cannot measure.

Card 5: What My Heart Fears

This card may reveal abandonment, regret, disappointment, vulnerability, boredom, or the fear of betraying yourself.

Card 6: The Integrated Choice

Bring both systems together. The card may suggest a phased decision, clearer boundary, courageous action, additional information, or acceptance that one value matters most.

How to Read the Story

Compare cards one and four first: fact and need may not truly be opposites. Then examine the two fear cards so anxiety does not masquerade as wisdom. Card three provides the structure, and card six shows what becomes possible when the plan serves the deeper truth rather than suppressing it.
